Finishing Seventh Grade

Think this all came together nicely. Re-did the vocals and main guitar track, and fixed everything else "in the mix" Kept the mandolin solo just like it was 'cause that took forever to get right!

Really tough to mix your demos when you know the final version will be squeezed down onto an MP3. All the effects tend to get lost somewhere along the way, and you always get weird resonances that are hard to predict ahead of time.

Could really used a compressor for the vocals, but at least the thirty-dollar pop screen I picked up last week made a big difference. Gonna try to write a few more songs with this basic set-up and see what I end up with.

I actually like your earlier version better. Problems I see with this one are...technically it is cleaner I suppose. But, you seem to have put your lead vocal more into the left channel...should be more centered. The secondary vocals are must too "in your face" compared to the lead. Very "jarring" and really draws attention to itself...when it should blend in. The original production feels more "together" in the spatial field and not all over the place. Also, what you see as not being in your best voice - to someone who is not familiar with your "healthy" voice - it sounds more genuine. Not what you want to hear, I'm sure...but there it is. The first cut gets my vote. All the best.
